In this episode, we’re looking at the difference between “pensar” and “achar”.

Eu estou a pensar no futuro // I'm thinking about the future.
Eu penso que é melhor não irmos a esse restaurante. // I think it's best if we don't go to that restaurant.
Achar
Eu acho que vai chover. // I think it's going to rain.
Acho que este pão é melhor. // I think this bread is better - because I like it more.
Eu achei o livro. // I found the book.

— Estive a pensar sobre o problema. // I’ve been thinking about the problem.
— Ai, sim? E então? // Oh, really? So?
— Acho que é melhor comprarmos um carro novo. O orçamento do mecânico é muito caro. // I think we better buy a new car. The mechanic’s estimate is very expensive.
— Achas? Mas este carro é um clássico e uma raridade. // Do you think? But this car is a classic and a rarity.
— Pois, mas neste momento não anda. // Right, but at the moment it’s not working.
— Mas se o arranjarmos podemos vendê-lo por mais, não achas? // But if we fix it, we can sell it for more, don't you think?
— Acho que não. Isto é um projeto sem sucesso. // I don’t think so. This is an unsuccessful project.
— Hmm. Não sei. Deixa-me pensar melhor sobre isso. // Hmm. I don’t know. Let me think about it better.
— Mas não penses durante muito tempo porque eu preciso de um carro para ir para o trabalho. // But don’t think for a long time because I need a car to go to work.
